A weekend away in Sheffield

I spent the weekend in Sheffield for two days of gaming related fun. Baccus were having their open day on the Saturday showing how they produce the figures and giving a brief history of the company. We were shown round by Peter who explained how no metal is wasted because they recycle all the unusable stuff and all the figures that aren't quite good enough are melted down again to be cast again which is why their figures are such good quality.
After the tour I went for a pub lunch with Peter and his family which was really nice and just a short walk from where I was staying. In the evening we all met up again at a pub and then went for a curry which I enjoyed although I did just have my usual Korma, afterwards Igor gave me a lift back to the B&B where I was staying where after watching a couple of episodes of The Big Bang Theory I settled down for a good night's sleep.

The gaming day was being held just round the corner from the train station which was really handy for me as it meant that I didn't have to worry about leaving early to find it.

At the gaming day they had a table set up with some painting stations showing people how easy it actually is to paint 6mm figures

It was really good because they asked which period you were interested in then provided you with enough figures to produce a base and showed you shortcuts you could take and gave tips on how to enhance the look of the figures. I painted up a base of Napoleonic Russians in greatcoats to get me used to painting 6mm Napoleonics and I'm pleasently surprised how they turned out.

I was so pleased with them that I just had to treat myself to a pack of them from the Baccus trade stand which was conveniently located right next to the painting workshop.

In the entrance there was an impressive looking Towton game.

There were lots of other great looking games which really showed how good 6mm can look.

It really was a great weekend and I had loads of fun over the weekend, so thank you to everyone involved and I look forward to going again next year.

A weeks gaming in a nutshell

Well, I've managed to cram a fair bit of gaming into one week. Last Sunday I called round to Alex's place after work to catch the end of his DBN game which looked very impressive. I got some pictures of the game, I'm sure there will be a battle report up soon.











On Friday I called in at Peeler's gaffe for a game. Alex had brought an ACW variant of DBN to play. The game was played using 1/72 plastics which seem to be appearing more and more in the games that we do, and why not they're a perfect way to game as they don't cost as much as the usual stuff we use. I didn't get any photos of this but I'm sure Peeler will have some to put up on his blog.

Then today I went along to the York wargames show. Unfortunately Peeler had to give it a miss due to work so I went along on my own. It was a good show and I got some good stuff on the bring & buy along with the rest of the stuff I needed for the Elvington game. Here are some pictures of some of the games.























I left the show at about 12:30 as I was in need of something to eat and the cafe at the show was packed out, so after escaping from the mud in the car park I set off for home, stopping off at a nice little fish and chip place on the A64, the same one we called at on the way back from Leeds. I got home at about 3:00. All in all it was a good show and a good way to kick off the wargames show calendar. Bring on Elvington!

Reviving an old project

Well I've been having a good old clean up today and while doing so I came across my collection of plastic Napoleonics.
I will post up more pictures as these progress.

Trafalgar game 09

Here are some photos of a game me and my group put on at Vapnartak 09.


A big thank you to everyone who came along and offered such positive feedback. Also thank you to Peeler for taking the photos and of course to the rest of my crew namely my brother Gaz and his mate Stuart.


The game was played using 1/2400 scale ships from Noble Miniatures and made use of the Grand Fleet Actions in the Age of Sail rules by A and A Games. The rules themselves are pretty straightforward and allow fast flowing play. A good day was had by all we all had a good laugh and I am hoping to put on another next year. The game followed history and resulted in the British triumphing over the French and Spanish navies.
