Anniversary post

Well doesn't time fly when you're having fun, my blog has been running for exactly one year today. The last year has been really good wargames wise for me as I've met up with old friends and made new ones, plus I've played a wide variety of games from various periods in history. So I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all my wargame chums for their friendship over the last year and for some great games, long may it continue.

A weeks gaming in a nutshell

Well, I've managed to cram a fair bit of gaming into one week. Last Sunday I called round to Alex's place after work to catch the end of his DBN game which looked very impressive. I got some pictures of the game, I'm sure there will be a battle report up soon.











On Friday I called in at Peeler's gaffe for a game. Alex had brought an ACW variant of DBN to play. The game was played using 1/72 plastics which seem to be appearing more and more in the games that we do, and why not they're a perfect way to game as they don't cost as much as the usual stuff we use. I didn't get any photos of this but I'm sure Peeler will have some to put up on his blog.

Then today I went along to the York wargames show. Unfortunately Peeler had to give it a miss due to work so I went along on my own. It was a good show and I got some good stuff on the bring & buy along with the rest of the stuff I needed for the Elvington game. Here are some pictures of some of the games.























I left the show at about 12:30 as I was in need of something to eat and the cafe at the show was packed out, so after escaping from the mud in the car park I set off for home, stopping off at a nice little fish and chip place on the A64, the same one we called at on the way back from Leeds. I got home at about 3:00. All in all it was a good show and a good way to kick off the wargames show calendar. Bring on Elvington!

Merry Christmas

I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I hope Santa brings you everything you want and remember to eat, drink and be merry.

Smoggycon

Well, Smoggycon is now just a week away, so just a quick reminder that we'll be putting on the Battle of Trafalgar, so if you're going please feel free to pop along and say hi. We'll be in the bar, much to Peeler's delight I'm sure lol.

Showtime in Derby

Yesterday, me and Doug went along to the Derby show. Early start for us both but we didn't suffer too much. We arrived just before the show opened and went off for a look round. This is a picture of the venue to give a sense of how big the show really is.
First I went to have a look at the Leipzig Lite game put on by Baccus. It uses a quick play set of rules allowing the battle to be fought in about an hour. I had a go with the French and got hammered by a little kid, not good I know but I had been told the French never win so I took comfort from that.

Next to it was another 6mm Napoleonic game using Baccus figures, this really did look impressive and really demonstrated the pros of using 6mm figures. The last picture shows the sheer scale of this game.


Next up was a 6mm Seven Years War game. I've met the guys who run the game before at the Baccus gaming day, really good guys who don't take themselves too seriously. They certainly know how to game too with music from the period and drinking wine.


Upstairs was a nice Wargods game. Basically an Egyptian Mythology game.

One game you couldn't miss was the St Nazaire game. I have seen this a couple of times before and it really is impressive.
I went round and got a few goodies including some 10mm ACW which I have big plans for, so watch this space. Also some Kallistra ratmen for our 10mm DBF games, then had a look round at the rest of the games on offer.






We set off at about 3:45 and went in search of somewhere to have tea, or more specifically a KFC. I got back home just before it got dark, completely exhausted but worth it. It was a well needed day off to help me forget about things. Thanks once again to Doug for his company.
